For the Dishwasher's Sake, Go Easy on the Detergent
Yahoo! Finance - Business Finance, Stock Market, Quotes, News
I've been writing on some weighty topics lately — too little money, too many choices, too few jobs. It's time, I decided, to move on to some questions that haunt me almost every day.
How much soap should I put in my washing machine and dishwasher?
Do I need to do more for my dryer than clean that little pull–out lint catcher?
Should I rinse my dishes before putting them in the dishwasher?
Most of us learned how to use a washing machine or dishwasher in our parents' house many years ago and haven't really changed our methods, even though most appliances have evolved radically since then. We rarely, if ever, read the manuals when we buy a new one or glance through the instructions on the box of detergent or bottle of dishwashing liquid...

Fewer Home Sellers Cut Asking Prices for Homes in January 2010 | RISMedia
Fewer Home Sellers Cut Asking Prices for Homes in January 2010 | RISMedia
RISMEDIA, February 12, 2010—Just over 40% of available homes for sale had reduced prices in January 2010, compared with 44% in December 2009, according to a monthly survey of home listings in 27 markets conducted by the national real estate brokerage ZipRealty.
With fewer reduced price homes available in January, sellers were able to ask for their original list prices, rather than cut them to attract buyers.
“Sellers are taking a realistic look at current market conditions before listing their homes,” said ZipRealty CEO Pat Lashinsky. “We have a lot fewer homes for sale right now than we did last year, and we are seeing more sellers sticking to their original list prices, rather than cutting them to try to attract buyers.”

House Match: Downsizing to the Right Fit
When life happens and you've got too much house, it's time to think simpler
By Geoff Williams and Annalisa Burgos, FrontDoor.com | Published: 10/13/2009
It seems like only yesterday you were having your first child and setting up a home for a growing family. Fast forward to today, when your youngest calls to say she's found the perfect apartment and that the chair from the family room would really fit into her new living room. Your downsizing journey has officially begun.
It's safe to say homeowners typically don't daydream about buying a smaller home. But minimal maintenance is definitely an upside to not living large. After all, the time and money you used to spend on cleaning and upkeep can now go toward fun things. That's why some people see downsizing as a step forward, not backward. If you're thinking less space is the place, you're not alone....
